The March Birthday Party will be on March 10 as many players will be at the Charleston Sectional on the first weekend in March. There will be a game at the club Saturday, March the third.
The big event for March is the Tricity Tournament over the St. Patrick’s Day weekend. The Thursday Night Kick-off event will be at
the CBC club Downtown at
Facts of Bridge Life (Eddie Kantor) #15 It is dangerous to use Blackwood holding a void. If you are missing two aces and partner shows one ace, you won’t know which it is. It is usually better to cuebid when interested in a slam. Also, when responding to Blackwood, do not count a void as an ace. With one ace (or three) and a void, jump to the six level of the void suit if it is lower ranking than the trump suit. If the void is higher ranking than the trump suit, jump to six of the trump suit. With two aces and a void, respond 5 NT.
#16 When
responding to an opening bid with two
four card majors, respond 1 Heart and give partner a chance to rebid 1
Spade. If partner doesn’t rebid 1 Spade,
assume partner doe not have four spades and bid accordingly. You hold:
S- AJxx H- KQxx D- Jx C- xxx.
Bidding Partner You
1 D 1 H
2 C ?
Bid 2 NT and limit your hand to 11-12 HCP Do not bid 2 Spades-partner doesn’t have four spades.
The active game directors (the ones you see running the games at the club) have met twice concerning the Zero tolerance policies suggested by ACBL. We feel that players should be made aware of the things ACBL considers detractors of the game. #1 Constant lessons-to partner and opponents-along with loud discussion of played boards. Lessons come before or after the game-not during. Unless you can take it outside between rounds #2 Constant slow play. (the people behind you are not having fun) #3 game interruptions-specifically ringing cell phones-we suggest you turn them to ‘off’ or vibrate while playing-or leave them with the director on vibrate if you expect an important call.
We qualified for another ‘upgraded’
club championship. We will hold it on
the March Birthday party March 10th- No extra charge. Special invites to all the newest members who
joined to get us this game.
